OTTAWA – September 15, 2025 – Canadian Airports Safety Week is set to return from September 15–19, continuing its mission to promote a strong safety culture across the aviation industry. As passenger volumes grow and operations become increasingly complex, Canada’s airports remain steadfast in their commitment to safety as a top priority.
Led by the Canadian Airports Council (CAC) and supported by 23 airports nationwide, Canadian Airports Safety Week is a collaborative initiative that promotes safe and healthy work practices for all airport employees. Through peer-to-peer learning, training sessions, and the exchange of best practices, the initiative reinforces the aviation industry’s shared dedication to a strong and proactive safety culture.
“Safety is fundamental to airport operations, not only for passengers, but also for the thousands of staff who work behind the scenes,” said Monette Pasher, President of the Canadian Airports Council. “Canada’s airports are strengthening safety with investments in upgraded infrastructure and a strong safety culture, alongside industry partners who are enhancing passenger screening technologies. Whether you’re a traveller or an employee, everyone deserves to feel, and be, safe at the airport.”
This year’s Safety Week places a special emphasis on Human Factors & Training, acknowledging the essential role of airport personnel in ensuring safe and efficient operations. The week’s programming will feature targeted activities and discussions around key safety themes:
- Worker Safety
- Security Safety
- Hazard Reporting
- Environmental Safety
- Psychological Safety
- Construction Safety
- Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Free Day
With key priorities facing the sector, including security, connection processing, digitization, regulatory frameworks, and passenger screening, fostering a strong culture of safety is as vital as it’s always been. Canadian Airports Safety Week not only reinforces critical safety standards, but it also celebrates the dedication and professionalism of the people who keep our aviation system safe, secure, and resilient.
The week reflects the industry’s unwavering commitment to safety, ensuring that Canada’s airports remain trusted gateways for passengers, employees, and communities alike.
